PM-YASASVI (PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India) is a flagship scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It helps students from Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and De-Notified Tribes (DNT) continue their schooling without financial pressure. For thousands of talented students, it is the difference between staying in school and dropping out.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, a student must belong to the OBC, EBC or DNT category and be currently studying in Class 9 or Class 11 in a government-recognised school. The combined annual income of the parents or guardians should not exceed ₹2.5 lakh. Age criteria are also specified for each class, so applicants should confirm the exact age band for the year they apply.
Scholarship Amount
Selected students can receive support of up to ₹1.25 lakh per year, which helps cover tuition, examination fees and other academic costs. This makes it possible for meritorious students to study in good schools that might otherwise be out of reach. The scholarship can be renewed each academic year, provided the student maintains the required attendance and performance.
How Are Students Selected?
Earlier, selection involved a dedicated entrance test (the YASASVI Entrance Test). For the current cycle, selection has moved to a merit-based system using marks from previous academic examinations, and the entrance test has been discontinued for now. Students should always check the latest official notification, since the selection method can change from year to year.
